Jack goes on a diet

I now weigh 213 lbs. (96.8 kgs), and that's a little much for someone who is only 5'9" tall. So, I've decided to go on a diet.

The way I'll do this is to count calories (I'm sure I'll get lots of suggestions for Diet X or Diet Y, but as a science-minded person I like to do it this way). I'll post everything I eat over the next few weeks to this blog, with a daily weigh-in to see how I'm progressing.

Hey, good luck. I've lost almost 40 pounds myself and also did it scientifically using one of the various online fitness/diet sites that let you punch in all of your food and excercise. It is pretty simple math when you start tracking it all. Anyhow, have fun and don't starve yourself...

Good Luck. While the U.S, is probably the best place in the world to put on weight it is also one of the best places to lose weight. Very few places have such an abundance of great salads, fresh fruit and good tasting, 'calorie wise' foods of every sort. Should help to reduce somewhat the 'pain' of a diet.

Tim - 40 lbs. is a lot. Good work. I could probably stand to lose about that.

The advantage of dieting in the US vs. Europe is that at least you can have some idea what you're eating. Many food products in Europe have no calorie count at all on the package, which makes it hard to follow a calorie-counting diet.
