Check out news.i90.org

So, I've gone live (with one day to spare) with a very rough first cut at a social news site. You can see it at news.i90.org. Post any bugs/suggestions to the comments on this post.

There are obviously a lot of things to be done before it could be promoted to the general public. I can think of a few right away:
  1. I only spent 5 hours coding it - in a bar while drinking beer - and so there are going to be some nasty bugs.
  2. It, uh, isn't in Czech, which was kinda the whole point. Will need to sit down with a native speaker to get the site translated.
  3. The bookmarklet works well (drag it into your browser's toolbar) as long as the title of the site doesn't contain accented characters (e.g. Vondráčková). Will have to fix that.
  4. The graphics and page design are lame.
  5. There are no RSS/Atom feeds.
  6. The algorithm I use for determining what's 'popular' is very simplistic.
  7. The site requires JavaScript in the user's browser. Would be better if it would also work without JavaScript turned on.
  8. I have no idea if the site even works in Internet Explorer for Windows.

An atom feed is available at http://cjn.cz/news/atom. I don't know if I'll bother to add RSS as well.
