I wouldn't pay $900k for a condo in Minneapolis
On a recent episode of HGTV's What You Get For the Money, they looked at what $900k buys in various markets around the U.S. Obviously, location plays a huge part in the price of a house or condo (even when looking in the same city), but the place they picked in Minneapolis, Minnesota for $900k struck me as not a very good deal.
They showed a 2400 square foot, one bedroom, two bath condo in Minneapolis' warehouse district with obstructed views of the skyline and Mississippi River.
I'm sory, but there is no way I'd spend close to a million bucks for a condo in downtown Minneapolis. Minneapolis' downtown is OK, but if I was going to drop that kind of money, I'd get 4500 sq. ft. with a pool somewhere in the suburbs (and a garage that wasn't six floors away from my kitchen).

This is obviously for an older, 'empty nest' couple who want to be in the center - one bedroom in 2.400 sq. ft.!!??
This is also happening in Toronto. Years ago people moved out to the 'burbs to raise their families and bought houses with big yards and close to schools. Now the kids are gone and the parents don't need the yard and the schools but want to go out for dinners and to the theater etc so they sell the big house with all the maintenance issues and move into a condo in the center of the city.
One bedroom in 2,400 sq ft!?
